Songmice

Songmice are small, mostly omnivorous vuxte relatives. They're named for their unique, often musical vocalizations.

Fourclaw Songmice

Songmice with four toes on the back feet.

Greater Goldbelly: A largely herbivorous species common in the sub-surface levels of Pyr. They seem to prefer seeds and nuts produced by photosynthetic plants, which can be found abundantly in the parks and nurseries of the well populated districts just out of reach of the sun, but avoid direct sunlight. Sometimes they can be found in surface districts at night. Many consider them a nuisance species.

Oneclaw Songmice

Songmice with hind legs that end in a single toe.

Oasis Songshrew: These vividly colored songmice are found almost exclusively in the Smudge-Oasis downwind of Pyr, though they often appear in inter-district gardens and orchards bordering that region. Like all songshrews, these are vicious little predators that use their clawed hind-limbs to hold their prey fast while they go in for the killing bite. They’ll eat any animal smaller than themselves, from tiny invertebrates to nearly-grown juveniles of other songmouse species.

Clawless Songmice

Songmice with back legs that have lost all of their toes.

Broubou: Named after their honking song, these beasts prefer the darker districts of Pyr. Like other deep-city species, they’re sometimes spotted on the surface at night. They hunt flying insects, which they snatch right out of the air, but some have even been found with parts of other, smaller songmice in their stomachs!
